Nearly a year ago, the Arusha District Education Office identified Laroi and Olemedeye Primary Schools as the district’s two “focus” schools for the implementation of STS’s Whole Child Model initiatives. This means that in addition to the partnership STS brings to all primary schools in the Arusha district, Laroi and Olemedeye will receive intensified efforts that simultaneously support education, health, and engagement.
Both Laroi and Olemedye are close to Arusha’s capital and are led by strong and steadfast headteachers–a trait STS has learned works well for the Whole Child Model. They are similar in other ways, too. Laroi Primary School is based in the Laroi Ward and has 10 teachers who serve 380 students in grades 1-7. Olemedye Primary School is also in the Laroi Ward and has slightly fewer teachers (8) for slightly more students (381).
