The Gates-funded Zambia Preservice Study builds an evidence base on the impact of preservice teacher training on foundational learning. The project’s study examines the knowledge and pedagogy of student teachers who have completed their pre-service teacher training in public colleges of education supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Transforming Teacher Education Activity, implemented by LSI, School-to-School International and the University of Zambia from 2020-2025.
Led by Dr. Stephanie Zuilkowski from Florida State University, STS will collaborate on all stages of this project, including:
- Collaboration on the development of the student teacher observation tool and limited piloting of the tool;
- Collection of data on private colleges offering the Primary Teachers’ Diploma, including two short visits to private colleges;
- Support on private college report writing;
- Data collection with 300 student teachers in Term 2 of 2025;
- Support during data analysis and reporting, including presentations and journal article writing.
