Northwest Syria is one of the most challenging contexts for humanitarian work. And its people desperately need support, especially in the underfunded education sector.
Manahel, part of the Syria Education Programme (funded by UK aid and implemented by Chemonics) has been working since 2018 to bring hope to future generations caught in these crises by providing education to primary-school-aged children. It has benefited over 600,000 children through school, home, and after-school education, and by addressing their psychosocial and protection needs. The project is now in its second phase of programming (2024-2028).
STS has partnered with Manahel on a variety of assessments, including the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) and the Early Grade Maths Assessment (EMGA), since the program’s inception. These assessments help teachers, learners, parents, and others understand the extent to which children are learning, thus enabling effective targeting of instruction and remediation to improve learning outcomes for all children.
