Let’s Read Fluently!

Pilot & Efficacy Studies to support early literacy in Jordan

The Queen Rania Foundation (QRF), together with its national partner, the Queen Rania Teacher Academy, is adapting a reading program for use in Jordan to help young children build strong early literacy skills. The program draws on well-established research about how children learn to read and focuses on helping students become more fluent readers.

Two versions of the program are being developed. One is designed to provide extra support to students in grades one through three who are struggling with reading. The second is a classroom-wide approach for all grade one students. Early testing of the program (the pre-pilot) helped confirm that both approaches were sound and ready to move forward into more formal pilot and effectiveness studies.

STS played a key role in strengthening this early phase of the work. STS provided technical guidance throughout the pre-pilot and pilot phases, helping QRF refine how the program would be tested and learned from. This included advising on the overall evaluation design, reviewing and providing feedback on draft evaluation plans, and supporting the development of clear and practical data collection tools. STS also reviewed the tools used with teachers and students and worked closely with the team to interpret early findings, ensuring that lessons from the pre-pilot were clearly understood and could be used to inform the next stages of the program.
