Integrated Child & Youth Development Activity in Uganda

The USAID-funded Integrated Child and Youth Development (ICYD) Activity is for Ugandan children and youth, especially the most vulnerable. It provides them with the support and services necessary to lead resilient, healthy, and productive lives. The ICYD Activity will address the mutually reinforcing relationship between improving learning outcomes and improving well-being. It will employ a comprehensive approach to continuing early-grade reading supports while addressing school retention and providing critical services to orphans and vulnerable children.

School-to-School International provided technical assistance to the Activity’s learning agenda, monitoring, and evaluation activities. Throughout the award’s life, STS completed several literature reviews, conducted EGRA data collections, assisted with the development of various tools, and advised on the ICYD Activity’s monitoring, evaluation, and learning plan. The literature reviews included topics such as relationships between languages and student reading performance, relationships between SRGBV and student learning and retention, and measures that ICYD should take to strengthen education systems at the local level.
