Global Education Monitoring Report for Zambia

The Spotlight series, a partnership between the Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report and the African Union in collaboration with governments and many organizations, generates evidence and disseminates good practices on primary education. Its aim is to feed into policy dialogue processes and inform policy action at the continental level for the implementation of the Continental Education Strategy for Africa and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

STS worked with education stakeholders and experts to produce the Zambia Country Report for the Global Education Monitoring Report’s Africa Spotlight Series. A collaboration with the Association for the Development of Education in Africa and the African Union, the Spotlight Series and aims to foster peer-learning and dialogue level to improve primary education completion and foundational learning in reading and mathematics in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals.

STS built on its previous work producing the Spotlight Series’ Rwanda Country Report to produce the Zambia Country Report, which focuses on the level of alignment between Zambia’s national education vision with the country’s curriculum, assessments, and learning materials. STS first reviewed and mapped these materials, and then worked with national education stakeholders to generate initial alignment challenges and solutions on which to focus the report. STS then met with local stakeholders in the Lusaka and North-Western Provinces of Zambia speaking with local education officers, school officials, teachers, parent teacher committees to gather their perspectives on the findings raised. The results of the materials review, consultations and fieldwork were compiled to produce the Zambia Country Report.

STS is proud that its work on the Spotlight Series project provides national and international education stakeholders with detailed insight into basic education and foundational learning in Zambia, advancing opportunities for a quality education for every child.
