The Accelerated Quality Education for Liberian Children (AQE) is an USAID-funded activity aimed at increasing access to education for approximately 48,000 out-of-school children aged 8 to 15 in six target counties by assisting the Liberian Ministry of Education. The project’s activities are specifically designed to provide relevant, flexible, and quality education opportunities to children, giving them the opportunity to pursue education or training. The activity aims to strengthen the policies, systems, and resources that are available to the ministry, particularly in the area of accelerated education.
STS, in collaboration with the AQE team and EDC, developed placement and completion assessments for the project’s accelerated learning program (ALP). The assessments were aligned to Grades 1–6 and covered Liberia’s core curriculum in language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. Additionally, STS developed professional development modules that train principals and teachers to administer and score assessments, including a series of short videos to supplement in-person training. Finally, STS developed score reports to guide teachers through a process to use the placement assessment data formatively when planning class assignments and activities. STS supported EDC in the institutionalization of all parts of the ALP’s assessment system.
