Our aim is to help all children become proficient readers and mathematicians. One strategy we use is cluster-based training, where teachers from different schools come together to share experiences and acquire new skills.
We’ve found that teachers learn well through cluster-based training. They enjoy getting together, talking, making mistakes, laughing, and learning from one another. This strategy also builds sustainability because teachers continue to share experiences when they return to their schools.
– Mark Lynd, STS President and Co-founder
In 2019, STS partnered with the Joshua Foundation and Oikos East African to conduct a six-day training with teachers and principals from the Arusha District of Tanzania to explore best practices for teaching reading and math. The training provided specific teaching strategies and link instruction with the textbooks and curriculum for Standard 1–3 teachers in STS’s partner schools.
We are excited to continue our work in the Arusha District in 2020—implementing the ideas of the Whole Child Model and working to ensure that all students have the resources and support they need to succeed in school.
