On Tuesday, March 12, STS’s Executive Director Candace Debnam met with the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs to advocate for basic education.
Representing the Basic Education Coalition, Debnam appealed to the subcommittee for their continued support for international basic education—which, in addition to providing children with literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills, lays the foundation for sustainable economic growth, poverty alleviation, social stability, and participatory democracy.
Thanks to the leadership of Congress and passage of the READ Act, we are positioned to take our education development work to the next level. Quality education for all is the bedrock for societal progress. The benefits of our investments now will be reaped by generations to come.
