For over 15 years, STS has developed, refined, and delivered the Whole Child Model—a holistic, broad-based set of interventions that establish the conditions of success for children in school. Education, health, and engaged communities are key components of a productive learning environment. STS’s Whole Child Model is designed to address each of these areas simultaneously so that children can enjoy quality education in a healthy environment and with supportive and engaged communities. In 2018, STS expanded the geographic reach of the Whole Child Model to benefit children in the Arusha District of Tanzania.
In Tanzania, STS will work with Arusha Education Authorities and local stakeholders to ensure target schools have adequate classrooms and sanitation facilities, ensure all students have access to textbooks and learning materials, support strong school management to address issues of instructional quality and infrastructure, and build communities to support successful student transition to secondary school. STS plans to work to ensure access to clean water, solar power, and adequate latrines. In addition to installing the infrastructure, STS will train school management committees on optimal practices for upkeep and management of these new systems.
