The Food for Education III (FFE III) project was part of the USDA funded McGovern Dole Food for Education program and was implemented in Tanzania’s Mara region by Project Concern International. The primary objectives of the program were to improve food security, reduce incidence of hunger, improve literacy and primary education, and contribute to more self-reliant and productive societies in the Bunda, Musoma, and Butiama districts in the Mara region.
STS led several literacy-related components of the project and provided ongoing technical support to the education programming on the project. STS developed and implemented a teacher professional development framework on literacy instruction and the use of decodable readers. The team prepared teacher training materials and facilitated training for master trainers and teachers. Additionally, STS provided technical assistance to the development and revision of teacher observation tools. Throughout the project, STS’s literacy experts provided recommendations on best practices for library management, teacher motivation, and recognition program activities.
