Providence Uwera serves as a Senior Literacy Specialist for the USAID Strengthening Teacher Education and Practice Activity (STEP) in Malawi.
Uwera has over 16 years of experience in a range of educational activities, such as leading early-grade literacy and learning interventions in schools, homes, and communities; and providing capacity strengthening to government bodies and education stakeholders to design, implement and evaluate approaches that promote learning, literacy, and the wellbeing of children. Before joining STS, Providence worked as a technical advisor on a $10 million literacy initiative that USAID funded from 2016 to 2021 in Rwanda. Providence also offered staff and stakeholders’ capacity development in areas of children’s literacy development, school leadership and management, book development and use, community engagement, inclusive education, and social behavior change communication for literacy and learning.
Providence holds a master’s degree in educational planning, management, and administration from Mount Kenya University.
