Dr. Joseph Mwansa is the Technical Director for USAID Transforming Teacher Education (TTE). Mwansa provides technical leadership and support to equip college lecturers to effectively prepare their student teachers. He leads module development and training provision. Mwansa maintains high levels of collaboration and communication with colleges of education and the directorates of the Ministry of Education to monitor and support the implementation of the activities in colleges of education and associated primary schools.
Before his work with TTE, Mwansa worked as a secondary school teacher of languages. He has also served as a lecturer of language and literacy education, linguistics, applied linguistics, and literacy education at the University of Zambia. Mwansa was a member of the national literacy committee that developed the current literacy framework being used in primary schools.
Mwansa holds BAEd in English, linguistics, and African languages from the University of Zambia, a BA in applied linguistics from the University of South Africa, and MA in linguistics and English language teaching from the University of Leeds. He earned his Ph.D. in psycholinguistics.
