Alex Pompe works to bring appropriate technology to developing countries anywhere in the world and fights to make sure the benefits outweigh the negatives. Pompe is currently a Research Manager at Facebook’s Data for Good team. This team is responsible for using Facebook’s data to help humanitarian organizations fill crucial information gaps during natural disasters and public health emergencies. They are most well known for producing Facebook’s Disaster Maps product.
Previously, Pompe was a Senior Growth Manager at Premise Data in San Francisco where he led scaling of their mobile app to users in over 35 countries across Latin America, Africa, MENA, and Asia. Prior to this he was a Senior Technical Advisor at IREX in Washington DC managing business development for technology division. He served as country director for the IREX Namibia office leading an education technology project funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation. Pompe was also the Chief Information Officer of the IREX Ukraine office working on the Global Libraries initiative funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He served as an IT and education volunteer with the Peace Corps in Namibia from 2006 to 2008.
Pompe holds a BS in physics from the University of Illinois, and an MS from the University of Michigan.
