Greetings from Melbourne, Australia! Members of School-to-School International’s staff have traveled to dozens of countries in Asia and Africa for work, but this trip marks the first time we have visited Australia professionally.

We’re thrilled to be here for the two-day Digital Innovation for Child Literacy Summit and Showcase. Today, STS president and co-founder Dr. Mark Lynd gave a master class presentation titled “Measuring Impact of Innovative Programs.” Mark shared his expertise about how people can determine how much of a difference their programs are making in people’s lives.

USAID, World Vision, and the Australian Agency for International Development organized the conference as part of their partnership on All Children Reading: A Grand Challenge for Development (ACR GCD). In 2011, the three organizations launched ACR GCD, which funds innovative, low-cost ideas to improve  children’s reading skills.

Taking a Test Drive: STS Researching its Whole Child Model in Guinea

Since School-to-School International was founded in 2002, one big question has driven our work: What does a child need in order to thrive in the classroom? There are many answers. No single “magic bullet” will lead to success.

This belief inspired our integrated Whole Child Model. This holistic program includes an array of activities in three areas — education, health, and engagement. Just like a car, a school is composed of a complex set of parts. All of them must function properly to ensure students are on the road to a quality education.
