Story Catcher: STS collaborates with Save the Children Haiti

Pictured is Mary Denauw, a member of the STS team, reading with Haitian children using a locally produced reading book.

This past summer, STS partnered with Save the Children Haiti (STC) to jumpstart an education project focused on French reading skills in the lower primary grades in Haiti.

Following the success of its grade 1 Creole reading program “Lekti se lavni” (Reading is the future), STC and the Ministry of Education (MENFP) requested that STS develop an approach to literacy that builds on students’ knowledge acquired in grade 1 and helps them successfully make the transition to grade 2. The grade 1 program developed by STS focuses on using students’ Haitian-Creole oral skills to develop French oral skills.
